Officially Coming Out of Cryo

So, after fourteen years, it looks like I’m coming out of cryo. It looks like I’m going to have a go at fame, if not fortune. It looks like SOMEBODY BELIEVES IN MY WORK!

…ENOUGH TO PUBLISH IT;
ENOUGH TO SPEND THE TIME AND MONEY NECESSARY TO AUDIO RECORD IT;
ENOUGH TO BUILD AND PAY FOR ADVERTISING

I’m sitting here, thawing out, wondering, “Huh? This is just a dream, right?”

I get no answer.

It’s a dream, all right. …My dream coming true.

Will I be famous? I hope so; I hope not. (It’s a double-edged weapon, you know.)

Will I be lucky enough to build a small fortune from this? I hope so; I doubt it.

Will anybody care? I hope so; I know so. Somebody already does. Enough to wake me out of cryo and make me sit up and take notice: “You’ve got to proof the manuscript; you’re the one reading it in the recording studio, since it is better if the author reads it; you’ve got to get some short stories out there, starting now….”

The lists I find waiting for me are long and getting longer. The book, the audio, the ads, the cover, the blog…and they’re building more website for me. …They’re expecting me to get up, get going, get doing. Guess I’d better shake off the brain mold and supercharge the battery reserves.

By the way, thanks to Don Webb and his editors for picking On the Eve of Wayward for “The Best of Bewildering Stories, Third Quarter Review.”

The Website is Up…Such As It Is.

Okay. So, the website is up, such as it is. I’m tired. This stuff is W-O-R-K. Exhausting. Wow. Remind me never to piss off a webmaster. They ain’t got it easy.

So…what’s next? Scrabble around and rescue my short stories and start submitting them again. Wait on more agents to say “no.” And…sort through my piles and piles of links and get them up in OtherWhere, a term I coined sometime around 1980. Yeah. I was still a wee bit, but I was already “out there.”

Short Story Accepted

I got a really nice surprise last night when my short story, The Eve of Wayward, was accepted by managing editor Don Webb for publication this summer in Bewildering Stories. Thank you, Mr. Webb.

Of course, this means that I have to scurry around to get a website back up, find my bio-, plus tidy up and organize my publishing credits. (Argh! They’re all in my hand-written journal). Lucky for me, the webmasters who take care of The Deepening came to my rescue and let me have a subdomain of my very own, and they even installed this blog for me. Now to go get a free FTP client and get something up on the front page of this website.
